Frequently asked questions
What is free, how to call landlines and mobiles, audio quality and privacy.
Is Ondafone free?
Downloading the app and creating an account with Google or email is free. With the free account, calls and chat between Ondafone users and using your own SIP account from any provider (such as your company PBX extension) cost nothing on Ondafone; calls through your SIP account follow the rates you already pay your provider. To call landlines and mobiles through Ondafone, you need a Voipmundo plan.
What is a softphone?
A softphone is a phone in the form of an app. It makes and receives calls over the internet (VoIP), on your phone or computer, without a physical handset. Ondafone is a softphone: you call using your VoIP line.
How do I take my company extension to my phone?
Ask whoever runs your PBX for the SIP details of your extension: server, user and password. In Ondafone, open Settings, turn on "Use my provider" and fill in those details. When it shows "Registered", your phone rings and calls as your extension.
Does it work with any PBX or VoIP provider?
Yes, with standard SIP accounts (UDP, TCP or TLS), which is what most IP PBXs, cloud PBXs and VoIP providers deliver. With another provider the app runs in basic mode: one account, audio, keypad, hold, history and simple transfer. On Voipmundo servers it unlocks full mode: push, attended transfer, conference, video, recording, setup by QR code and multiple accounts.
Can I set up my extension with a QR code?
Yes, in full mode. With your extension on Voipmundo servers, you get a QR code for the extension and just point the camera at it in Ondafone: the app configures itself, with no typing server, user and password. It also makes it easy to bring the whole team into the app at once. With another SIP provider, the account is set up by hand, in basic mode.
Can I call mobiles and landlines?
Yes, in two ways: through your provider SIP account, if it already allows those calls, or by getting a Voipmundo plan. Between Ondafone users the call has no cost.
Which systems does Ondafone run on?
Android, Windows, macOS and Linux. The app is in beta: join the list to get the invite as soon as your platform opens.
Is there Ondafone for iPhone?
Not yet. The beta starts with Android, Windows, macOS and Linux. Join the list to hear the news.
How much data does a call use?
Little. A voice call uses, on average, less than 1 MB per minute. It works on Wi-Fi and on 4G or 5G; on unstable connections the quality may drop.
How is the audio quality?
It depends mainly on your internet. On stable Wi-Fi or 4G with good signal the conversation is clear. If audio cuts out or only goes one way, try another network and check with your provider that the SIP account is allowed for the app.
What does Ondafone do with my data?
It uses only what is needed to create your account and complete your calls, under the Brazilian data protection law (LGPD). News by email only with your permission, separate from sign-up. You can ask to delete your account at any time. The details are in the Privacy policy (in Portuguese).
Is Ondafone open source?
Yes. The app is free software under the GPL license and the source code is published. The Ondafone name and logo are not part of the license: they are trademarks and cannot be used in modified versions.
Who makes Ondafone?
GrupoIVM Tecnologia, a telecom group from Curitiba, Brazil. The plans to call landlines and mobiles are from Voipmundo, the group VoIP operator.
